San Diego web site honors America's tastiest waitresses

By David Moye

April 24, 2006

San Diego--There are some restaurants where the waitresses are tastier than the entrees and a new website is giving customers a chance to dish.

It’s called – appropriately enough – www.smokinghotwaitress.com – and features more than 1500 females employed at bars and restaurants all over the world.

The waitress-worshipping website is a concept devised, in part, by San Diego State graduate Adam Baker, who was inspired while imbibing cocktails at the Sidebar down in the Gaslamp.

“My friend and I were really drunk and we both noticed the waitress was hot. A few minutes later, we saw another one and, after a while, we realized we were giving 40 percent tips to them.”

That 40 percent initial outlay was a good investment because Baker’s website, since its first posting 11 months ago, has become a big go-to site for guys who want to drink in the sight of lovely ladies.

In fact, the website has had 11 million page views in the last month – ever since it was featured in Rolling Stone magazine.

The first cities featured were San Diego, Los Angeles and New York. Now, more than 18 ports of call are featured, with more being added all the time.

Baker figures it’s a natural because a lot of guys would rather admire a pretty woman in their hometown instead of someone untouchable, like Angelina Jolie.

Currently, there are at least 90 San Diego waitresses qualifying for the website, including employees at the Stingaree downtown, the Typhoon Saloon in PB, and someone at Singing Hills Country Club in East County.

Still, Baker doesn’t think the San Diego babes are the best of the bunch.

“I’d rank San Diego’s waitresses in the middle but Calgary and Toronto have the prettiest – hands down.”

Although being a waitress or bartender is a noble profession, Baker says some of the girls on the website have been able to use their appearance to jump-start modeling careers by appearing in Maxim and Stuff magazine.

Baker envisions the website going global and hopes to get restaurants to pay money to keep their waitresses in the public eye because, he says, “a lot of places like to hire good-looking people.”

While he’s the first to admit that good looks don’t always equal good service he says the site won’t focus on the waitress’ work habits any time soon.

“We’re not trying to make this a ‘Hot Or Not’ website, so if you have complaints with a waitress, tell their manager.”
